History
The City of Lakeway TX is situated in the western corner of Travis County and is strategically located on the south shore of Lake Travis in the panoramic Texas Hill Country. It was founded on a 2,700-acre ranch owned by Houston rancher and oilman Jack (Jake) Josey. During the early 60s, three Houston businessmen by the names of G. Flint Sawtelle, john H. Crooker, Jr. and Lee Blocker got a sixty day option to buy the land and establish a hotel and resort community. These men were associated with the Guifont Hotel Company and the name Lakeway was so named is it overlooked the fairway of a golf course. In July 1974 a majority of residents voted to incorporate with the consent of the city of Austin and thereby establishing the 1,200-acre village of Lakeway.
