Apple to Build Billion Dollar Campus in Austin, Texas
Apple announced in December they will be investing 1 billion dollars into the new location of their Austin, Texas campus. The new Apple campus will span across 133 acres of the 7,000 acre Robbinson Ranch and be located near the McNeil Junction and Parmar neighborhoods as well as Silverton Custom Homes. The new campus is expected to add an additional 5,000 employees to the existing 6-7,000 employees it already has and has the potential to add 15,000 down the road. If all goes as expected, Apple will become the largest private employer in Austin.
In response to Apple’s announcement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, “Apple is among the world’s most innovative companies and an avid creator of jobs in Texas and across the country. Their decision to expand operations in our state is a testament to the high-quality workforce and unmatched economic environment that Texas offers. I thank Apple for this tremendous investment in Texas, and I look forward to building upon our strong partnership to create an even brighter future for the Lone Star State.”
So, what kind of impact will the new Apple campus have on Austin residents? In terms of real estate, property values are expected to rise which may have varying effects on homeowners. For those looking to stay in their home for an extended period of time, the increasing property values may be viewed as unfavorable. Meanwhile, those who intend to sell sooner rather than later will be pleased.
Aside from the impact on real estate in Austin, there will be new opportunities for jobs ranging from engineering, research and development, sales, and customer service, among others. Austin residents unfamiliar with the tech industry but that are interested in pursuing a career with Apple are encouraged to do so. Investing just a few months of your time learning coding can help you secure a position with this technology powerhouse.
