Burnet is considered Hill Country and the views are very nice. It is close to Lake Buchanan. Climate is much less humid compared to other parts of Texas with lower humidity around 30-50% during the summer. The fall season begins after September and the weather begins to cool down. Winters can have snow and ice but can go years without either. May is historically the rainiest month of the year here in Burnet. People are nice and friendly here and there is deer hunting season in the west part of Burnet. The major employers in the city are the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District with 285 employees. This is followed by Entegris a manufacturer of semiconductor materials for flat panels with 180 people. The Burnet country government has in their employ 140 people. Other major employers in the city include: Seton Highland Lakes Hospital, Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice, HEB Grocery, Sure Cast, Hoover Companies, Southwestern Graphite Co., Whataburger, Bilbrough Marble Co., Lone Star Industries and Dash Covers Inc. Public education in the city is provided by the Burnet Consolidated School District and is home to the famous Burnet High School Bulldogs.

History
A Texas Ranger Division under the command of Henry E. McCulloch founded a station at the site of what is now Burnet back in December of 1847. The site was meant to provide protection to the frontier settlers against Indian raiding parties. By March 1849, the station was selected as a federal fort and then named Fort Croghan. In 1852 a town was established just next to the fort and Burnet County was established. Originally named Hamilton after John Hamilton, the post office was established in August 1852 and named Burnet Courthouse. In 1857 thirty five residents petitioned the state legislature to change the name of the town to Burnet as there was another town in Texas with the name of Hamilton. The name change was granted in 1858. The city of Burnet was incorporated in 1933.

Bill’s Burgers, Wings and Things — If you are looking for a good burger in the city then Bill’s is the place to be. They serve some of the best burgers and onion rings around. The burgers are available in several sizes and the fries are amazing too. Do try their Margaritas. They offer charming outside seating with music. Service is great too.
Mama’s Home Cooking — The chicken fried steak is absolutely amazing and the homemade mac and cheese and fried okra are definite must try items on their menu. Do also try the blackened catfish and the grilled chicken too. Service is always exceptional.
Barbq Shak — The place is in the Texas monthly top BBQ joints list. The brisket is moist, very tender and the oak smoke was just right. The staff is extremely friendly. It is a small restaurant with limited parking space. The cole slaw and potato salad are amazing as well as the beans too. The brisket sandwich is amazing too with just the right amount of sauce in it.
