Trends in home design come and go. As home builders in the Austin area, we’ve seen it all and done it all. 2017 is shaping up to be a transitional year with regard to home décor and design. Trends are just that, the things that are hot for a time and then slowly, or quickly, fade into obscurity. Trends happened regionally and spread. Trends of today are what make your home look dated in just a few years so keep that in mind. When incorporating any trend into your home’s décor.

Home Décor Trends of 2017

Navy Blue – The color of 2017 is Navy Blue. You’ll see it everywhere – paint, upholstery, wallpaper, and even appliances. It’s hard not to like navy, but it can be overdone. Use it as an accent for trim, or for less permanent pieces like shower curtains, linens or things that are less expensive to change as the trend becomes tired.

White Kitchens – The all white kitchen has been a hot trend for several years now and for good reason. It’s classic, clean and looks stunning. As trends go, this one may be around for a long time and it may never show its age. The all white kitchen is a good trend to bet on.

Artisanal Pieces – DIY is still very popular but people are finding that doing things yourself rarely yields the same professional looking results you see on Pinterest or Etsy. Instead, homeowners are purchasing limited quantity items made by local artists rather than making it themselves or buying mass produced pieces.

Flamingos and Butterflies – Used to be these trends were only found at Grandma’s house, now they are everywhere. While both of these winged creatures are bright and cheery and can add a bit of whimsical to any room, they can become a distraction and you may easily tire of them in a setting such as a living room or bedroom. If you love these creatures consider incorporating them in accent pieces like throw pillows, flower pots or framed artwork.

Acrylic – It’s come and gone before so you may have some of these lovely accents. Acrylic is a great medium for barstools, table tops, frames and other accessories. It’s clean, and easy to clean.

Faux Marble – Marble has made its way from the countertop to the wall. For most people, a wall of marble just isn’t a reasonable thing, but now you can get faux marble wallpaper to produce a lovely and unique look to any room.

Hygge – We’ve talked about Hygge before, back when no one knew what it was. Now, it’s everywhere. Hygge is a Danish concept that produces a warm and inviting place for rest, relaxation and recharging. Think warm and cozy when you think Hygge.
